![]() I know who Margo Guryan is, and have the Sundazed pressing of her album that was offered as a restock by VMP today, so I personally didn’t have any FOMO of missing out on that record, because I don’t need multiple copies of it. How long did it take the Beatles to show up on iTunes? Oh yeah, when the price was right. Spotify could pull all of the Stones, Beatles and Led Zep albums tomorrow if those bands don't feel it is profitable. It's almost like Vinceron is just another arm of VMP.Īnd again. ![]() That way he and other people just like him won't snag up all the product and jack up the price within minutes of a supposed 'sell out'. They could start with curtailing Vinceron's access to multiple copies of titles first. sure, that's a risk he takes, but nobody finds it a bit suspicious? Somebody in an earlier post talked about curtailing the secondary market. Then you can get into the whole shady practice of Vinceron ending up with tons of copies to sell for high prices on the secondary market. A fairly well known band like Sleater Kinney can't sell out copies but Margo Guyran can? This is a music forum where there are many artists discussed that the general public has no clue about. The same can be said for James Booker, although I live in New Orleans where people have heard of him. Before you can blink your eye, they are gone. They are only releasing a few copies or 'restocking' found copies from the warehouse. VMP is creating a demand under the guise of FOMO. I'd be hard pressed to find five people who even know who Margo Guyran is or to specifically want a mono copy of it when they can get the not so limited stereo copy from Sundazed or any other major online retailer. I was able to pick up the Take a Picture lp without having to pay someone on discogs 60 bucks for it.Ĭlick to expand.Sure its hypothetical.but do you work for VMP to know they are NOT doing this with some titles? Record companies have never really been the model for transparency and business ethics over say. Perhaps it should be of been made more clear but I am talking about the bigger problem of flippers grabbing up limited stuff just to resell with no interest in the music, not VMP selling their leftovers. I knew as soon as I saw the email it would be just a few leftovers. So as much as you might think the companies are dead against it, I would say they are not.Īlso, I have no complaints about what happened with the throwback thursday restock. Also after a lot of complaints they changed their store drops to give subscribers the first 48 hours because things were selling out in minutes before members could get anything. If customers want to micromanage how VMP runs their business, maybe they should start their own business, so they can do things their way, with the proper “equity” or whatever it is they want.įunny how when VMP guesses wrong and is stuck with unsold inventory of years-old former Records of the Month from Caroline Rose, Open Mike Eagle, or James Booker, no one is volunteering to pass the hat and buy up the unsold stock those not-in-demand records in the name of “equity.” VMP is expected to eat their mistakes and magically repress exactly enough copies of every other record to satisfy the exact demand for it.Ĭlick to expand. You come across upset at the idea so I can only guess you have a vested interest in things staying as they are but I can tell you that VMP has put limits on certain releases, I haven't seen limited to one yet but I have seen limited to two in the past. ![]() These records exist in the first place because VMP is in business to make money. If I wanted to live in the Soviet Union where some central planner decided how many loaves of bread are allocated to each person every month, I would have moved there in the 1980s. If go to my local car dealer and want to buy two new SUVs, are they supposed to tell me “no”? Demanding that companies limit sales to one per customer is absurd. If I really wanted to “cheat the system” with regard to VMP and buy multiple copies of the Johnny Cash record of the month so that I could get rich flipping it for $60 a copy next year, I’d get my sister-in-law and my best friend in Atlanta to subscribe to the country track and reimburse them for their subscription fees. ![]()
